I Don't Want to Let Him Go

For eighteen months we dated, but then resentments grew

Going different directions is what we had to do

We faced difficult decisions, and something had to give

We never intended to break our promises

I don’t want to let him go; I don’t want to say good-bye

I don’t want to break his heart; I don’t want to make him cry

But I’ve got to move on with my life
